The interest FC Nantes Atlantique has shown in Dennis Oliech has been well documented over the last few months. It climaxed last week when the two parties signed a $3.7 million (Sh281.2 million) four-year deal undoubtedly guaranteeing a huge growth in interest from Kenyan fans on the French Ligue One when Oliech moves there in January.

Nantes sign up Kenyan star from Qatar

French side Nantes paid Sh325m to sign Kenyan striker Dennis Oliech from Qatar side Al-Arabi.

The player’s manager and brother, Ken Oliech, revealed yesterday the Kenyan international will to join Nantes in January.

"They have already agreed on the terms and he is just waiting for January to join his new club," said the manager.

He said Nantes beat another French side PSG to Oliech’s signature.

"PSG could not match what we wanted and so we settled for Nantes," he said.

He said the Qatar-based striker is negotiating with a sports manufacturer, Puma, for a kitting contract.

"Talks are going on and we hope to sign a deal before he goes to Nantes," he said.

He said his younger brother is ready to return to the national team, Harambee Stars.

"Oliech was unfairly criticised when he failed to travel to Tunisia in August, but the truth is that he was not in the country at the time and the Kenya Football Federation (KFF) failed to send him a ticket," he said said.

Oliech failed to travel to Tunisia for a World Cup match, and coach Mohammed Kheri dropped the player from the rest of the qualifiers.

However, his brother said Oliech is free to come back to the team.

"Oliech is a Kenyan and is free to play for the national team any time he wishes," Kheri said.

Stars’ next assignment is the regional Senior Challenge Cup in Kigali, Rwanda next month.
